Designing to Accommodate Both Skaters
& BMX'ers
There are a number of firms out there that design skateparks, but
LRM was one of the first to design for mixed-use. The Edmond Skatepark
in Oklahoma was one of the nation's first hybrid parks, and was designed
with extensive input from experienced BMX riders like Matt Hoffman
of Hoffman Bikes.
Some key design considerations for hybrid parks include:
-
Increasing the width of grind edges to protect concrete from
bike pegs;
-
Designing with parrallel flow lines to reduce the likelihood
of collisions between bikers and skaters;
-
Creating an open layout, and providing adequate space between
fast-flowing elements.
